The Fists of a Million Filipinos
Life doesn’t get easier or more forgiving, we get stronger and more resilient. Life is full of endless obstacles, these obstacles get harder and harder as we continue to live our life, the harder the stronger and more resilient we get. You can go places now that you can walk, right? That blurry moment in your life wherein you were still a baby, crawling on the floor went on tumbling on your feet until you got the hang of it. You practiced walking until you became stronger and after that, you could already run and jump around. The nation’s emblem of freedom, our Philippine flag. The white triangle portion of the flag symbolizes liberty, equality and fraternity; blue stripe for peace, truth and justice; and a red stripe for patriotism and valor. As a nation, many Filipinos went through many hard times in the past. Poverty, prostitution, dishonesty, oppression of the poor, discrimination and suppression of the freedom of the press. It’s not like we are free from conflicts in this year, many social issues still go on and in addition the deadly Corona virus is still spreading and our country has 2, 490, 858 confirmed cases.
Towards a more resilient Philippines we should identify the issues that are happening in our nation first. Ever since Duterte was elected for presidency in the year 2016, police and militia groups executed thousands of people, specifically drug dealers and users, many human rights defenders who have been killed or extra judicial killing; among the people who have been killed, dozens of minors have also been included and got shot in anti-drug raids. Environmental issues, the main causes are the behavior of the people in the nation, most do not follow rules and regulations, they commit acts which affects our environment, it is the cause of deforestation, pollution, global warming, destruction of coral reefs, natural resources and many more. Not only it affects the health of many people, but the environment is also a place where some people get their jobs from, like fishing and etc. Poverty is a big and serious issue with an estimated number of 14.4 million people living in poverty in 2018; financial problems, crimes committed, corruption and pollution (causes of natural disasters) are some reason why many people resulted to living in poverty. Overpopulation is another issue in the Philippines, it is mostly because of poverty, but also teenage pregnancy, the little knowledge some teenage girls lack about as well as rape. Since many people live in poverty, many cannot afford their children to attend school, most of them haven’t finished elementary and some only finished elementary. The quality of education is only a major issue which is quiet improving, the amount of dropout rates, the lack of classrooms, teachers and their poor performance greatly affects the quality of education, this also results to unemployment and crime. Issues including the youth involves child abuse, child labor and pedophilia which I think it will really affect a children’s health and their future. Years have passed by and the said issues are still happening in our nation, now with the Corona virus spreading like wildfire all over the world, our country currently has 2.51 million cases. This amount of cases and the virus overall can seriously affect the other issues mentioned and has been happening for years, they are getting worst. The amount of people that lost their jobs, patients with other diseases are neglected or ignored, health care workers are tired and getting infected, lack of hospital beds and quarantine facilities, closure of most businesses, modular distance learning and many more results of COVID 19 in our daily lives are changed.
As you go on with life you can never avoid problems and issues, instead you face them so you can also develop. Our country is going through many issues in the past years until the president. Extra judicial killing, poverty, environmental issues, overpopulation, issues in education, child abuse, labor and pedophilia are just some of the issues we are facing, plus this COVID 19 pandemic we are in right now. Life may be hard for everyone even for the people with money, we should all work together and help each other by doing simple things. Even if we develop slowly as long as we can improve and make our country a better place for our children. Let us all work hard together and raise our fists high, towards a more resilient Philippines!

Hi there! The Covid-19 Pandemic is such a great devastation, greater than any calamities that the whole world are facing into a great effect in each country’s down economy and businesses, some are closing, bankruptcy and low remittances, and low economic output. Government protocols are implemented, just to lower the high rising effect of the virus in each locality, but some are not aware of this such health and government protocols. Thus, the number of cases are still high to everyone, especially in our country. Let us be more resilient and be vigilant and follow the health and government protocols for our country’s recovery, and let us bring back again our country into a “normal and free”, Philippines.
