Memories to be Remembered and to be Made

Another year awaits us, as we continue living we remember all good and bad memories we had this year, we recall all the great times we had with family and friends and even the times were we feel blue. There were many events that happened in our lives, whether we like it or not, I think these experiences we had will be a great story with a lesson one day. For all the mistakes and failures that we had, we rose up and continued to strive higher. The country is slowly rising and soon we would be free from the said virus. Before we go ahead and think of what the new year would be, I want to recall some events that happened this year that I want to treasure.

When I try to intentionally remember events that happened in my life this year, it takes me hours to recall it. I think this year was the same as 2020, but even better because I am fully vaccinated and I can go out with my family and friends while still respectfully following the protocols.

This year, I continued to study harder and also helped my sister with her studies. I continue to develop my studying skills and continued to maintain good grades. There were some times that I felt really stressed with my modules. One time, I was so pissed off with Science that I screamed and cried out loud inside my room, startling my mom and sister. It was mainly because, I did not expect to have online classes this school year, I thought we would only have modules, so I was not ready for a change, a change wherein we have online discussions and quizzes. If I compare this school year 2021-2022 from school year 2020-2021, I think I improved with studying by myself, that goes for my skills in time management and got used to the distance learning.

With accordance to my family, we continue to be happy despite the pandemic, we would have late night talks, help each other in our studies and I would sometimes help my mom in her school related works. We would also always have a call with my dad since he is an OFW, unfortunately he cannot join us for Christmas but that won’t stop us from calling him instead. Lastly, we also share stories with each other over the table at my grandma’s house for lunch and dinner.

Now about my friends and I, our friend group is named “Bende Siblings”, and ‘till today we continue to be together, all happy and caring for each other, treating each other like real siblings. We even had new friends that joined our group. We would always talk in our group chat, share memes, jokes, complains, stories and even help each other in our studies. Sometimes, we go to one of our houses to hang out. We would share stories, thoughts, jokes, talk about our lessons and comfort each other when one of us are troubled. We even celebrate each other’s birthdays, even if we cannot have a gathering, we would message each other our greetings. Our friend group was created back when we were still in 7th grade, and every year we would celebrate our friendship anniversary, “Bende Day”. Before the pandemic, we would go out in the city and go to places, enjoying each other’s company. Even during the COVID – 19 pandemic, we would find a way to get together and celebrate our friendship anniversary. Last year, we went at one our friends’ vacant house at Camella Homes. It felt like we were all living in the same roof. This year, we were all fully vaccinated and so we went out to the city and walked from places to places filled with laughter and joy. It honestly feels so lonely when the day ended and we had to go home, it felt like you’re limited time for fun is over and have to go back to answering modules all day.

A lot of things happened this year and the experiences would come in handy for the future. We should treasure every memory we have with our loved ones, even the bad memories where we have struggled, it will serve as our guide and motivation to continue living and aim higher in the next following years.

Speaking of the future, we should also set up a New Year’s resolution, I’m sure most of us never successfully did it, but at least we tried. Nobody would be forcing you to change, but it’s up to you if you want to, if you change, change for the better, develop new skills, improve the ones you already have, fix the traits and behaviors you have that you wish to change, and accomplish and set new goals.

For me, celebrating New Year is also the time when we think ‘Oh, I’ve done so many things this year, I hope this new year will be even better.’ You would recall memories that made 2021 an interesting and memorable year for you. Let’s all celebrate New Year together, with happy faces, food on our table, fireworks, resolutions and even try to jump as high as you can to see if you can grow taller next year. Enjoy the holidays everyone, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
