The Final Piece of the Puzzle

Everyone has a role in their families and the society, but who do you think are more beneficial in the sectors of community? In the government, economy, education, health and other sectors? Everyone is equal in the eyes of God, no matter what or who you are, you are as special as anybody else in a community. One issue in the society is gender equality and gender role stereotyping. Just because they are men doesn’t mean they should all act tough, the only one who can play specific sports like basketball, the only one can lead and other male stereotypes. And just because they are women does not mean they are all dependent, fragile, and other female stereotypes. Not all women are born the same way as others expect them to be, they can be independent, a great leader, a talented athlete, and can do anything that men do.

This blog is about women empowerment, but it doesn’t mean I am here to look down at men. This blog and the phrase, women empowerment, is not asking to look at women more superior to men, but is asking for equality between both genders. It also asks for everyone to respect and treat women equally, because not all women share the same beliefs, thoughts, hobbies, lifestyles and goals, they have their own lives to control and it’s their decision to be whoever they want to be.

If the society keeps on discriminating, stereotyping and biased genders, then it would be hard for a community to develop because not everyone is not seeing their potential and they could help develop the society, economy and other sectors if people just give them a chance to express themselves for who they are.

We all can agree that most mothers stay at home to take care of their children and manage the house, like chores and other activities. We mostly see women doing chores around the house, as well as cooking and taking care of children. Women are mostly better in child care than men. According to Podium School, women have stronger child-rearing skills than men because it is what they have grown up doing. The roles of caring and nurturing are assigned by the parents to their daughters. While this still occur in the present, both parents are responsible for their children and their household. Therefore, we should show them respect for all their hard work in their households and be grateful that they are there for us children.

In the field of education, we can observe that majority of the teachers’ populations in most schools are women. There are also men who’re profession is teaching, but we should still be grateful for their efforts of educating us, watching over us and acting like our second parents. Speaking of education, everybody has the right to get educated, because according to Women, Human Rights Education, education unlocks a woman’s potential, and is accompanied by improvements in health, nutrition, and well-being of women and their families.

In health, women can also be doctors and nurses helping to save lives, especially in the COVID-19 pandemic, they are in the front lines in assisting infected people and scientists formulating vaccines against the said virus. In accordance with gender roles, nurses are usually only for women, but now men can also apply for this profession. We should be grateful for them because they are putting their lives at risk, they do not deserve to be disrespected and discriminated especially in the said pandemic.

Women empowerment has been showed in many events, situations and in everyday life activities. For example, in politics, the first female President of Philippines and in Asia is Corazon Aquino, in the election of 2022, Leni Robredo, Vice President is even running for president, and Sarah Duterte, Mayor of Davao City is running for Vice President. Another simple example are female members of student councils in schools. This shows that women can lead and might even lead a community or country into a great development. Women can do what men can do, if they are dedicated in doing it. There are many women who has been doing men’s work, like a construction worker, engineer, police, fire fighters, soldier and many other professions. Women can also do sports that are said to be only for men, like basketball, taekwondo, wrestling and many other sports. With given time, effort and dedication, Hidilyn Francisco Diaz have won the first gold medal for Philippines in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. She has shown women empowerment, as well as the other female athletes in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

To sum everything I have stated in this blog, women empowerment is about promoting women’s rights and having gender equality. It’s not about belittling the other but it’s about union. Women are just as important as men because everyone is made equally by God. Every individual is special in their own way, the fact that they differ from others is super beneficial for the whole community and in every sectors. Each one of us has their own special talents and holds a lot of potential, we just have to give each other the chance to contribute to the community. Women are the final piece of the puzzle to complete a community.
