In Honor of St. Paul and the City

Festivals are a way to celebrate religion, culture and traditions, wherein the people in a community rejoice with their loved ones, it’s also a time for everyone to relax and have fun and set aside their worries for a while and just celebrate with their friends and family. The Vigan City Festival is celebrated on January 25, the feast day of the city’s patron saint: Saint Paul, the Apostle.

I remember when I was a kid, my mom, sister and I would bring chairs to sit on when we go watch street dancing during the Vigan City Festival; loud and live music, colorful props and costumes, lots of people performing street dancing and a lot of people coming to watch them perform. We would visit carnivals, enjoy the taste of the food from the food fair and appreciate our culture.

It’s disappointing that we cannot celebrate this year’s Vigan City Festival like we used to, where a lot of citizens and tourists would watch street dancing, go to carnivals and fairs. We cannot do all of that because we have to follow health protocols and they are still quarantines and lockdowns. It’s quiet hard to you children sad because they cannot do any festivities, but you and your family can always do alternative activities back at home.

It’s difficult for us to accept the situation we are in, but if we want everything to go back to the way they were and so that we can celebrate festivals like we used to we should follow the health protocols and get vaccinated. The world won’t change so sudden, but the world will slowly turn upside down. Let’s all celebrate the Vigan City Festival with smiles on our faces despite the pandemic!

  3. I agree with you, the Vigan City Festival is really one of the most anticipated festivals but sadly it is prohibited due to the threat of Corona Virus. We must follow the mandated health protocols so that everything will go back to normal and festivals are celebrated the usual way again. Happy Fiesta Vigan City!
